Policies and Appointments

Usual practice routines

Appointments
Routine consultations are available by appointment which can be made by phone or in person at Urbenville during Surgery Hours.

It helps everybody, when asking for an appointment, to give some information about what might be required.
Referral to Specialists, Fitness to Drive medicals, Centrelink forms, Sickness Certificates, WorkCover issues, Immunisations and PAP tests may take longer than standard consultations and should be mentioned.  If the relevant forms are not brought to the consultation and produced with your part filled in, additional delay is introduced and may lead to the result being incomplete and another appointment necessary.

Home Visits
Under some circumstances it is possible to get a home visit if notified and agreed to by the doctor in advance.  The hospital emergency department is available for all urgent matters at all times.

Blood tests
Most blood tests can be done locally, in the Urbenville surgery and during morning surgery hours. These are bulk billed.
When booking, tell the receptionist it is for a blood test.
You will be offered a time in the mornings of Mon-Thu, to enable our courier to get the samples to Lismore that day.
If such tests must be taken while fasting it is advised to ask for an appointment earlier in the morning so breakfast is not too delayed.

Repeat Prescriptions
All prescribing is done during consutations so ensuring at least one face-to-face meeting every six months in guaranteed for people with chronic conditions.  No prescriptions will be left for pick-up nor faxed to a pharmacy for patients who are not in hospital or aged care facilities normally attended by our doctors.

Medical Certificates
It is not legal for us to certify that someone has been ill if our doctors have not seen and treated them.  Do not ask for retrospective sick notes as they will be refused.

Test results
No test results will be given over the phone, emailed or faxed.
A consultation with the doctor ordering the tests to discuss the meaning of them is necessary.  In this way issues arriving from both positive and negative findings can be discussed and no confidentiality problems can arise.

Phone calls to doctors
Ordinarily, our doctors do not take phone calls from patients calling for advice.  Think how annoying it is if you are in consultation and somebody else interrupts and takes attention and time away from your concerns.
Our receptionists are instructed not to put patient calls through so it is no use putting pressure on them.
