Policies and Appointments

Policy

Consultations

An appointment is understood to be about ONE medical problem only. Any further items are at the discretion of the doctor and will not be contemplated if the doctor is running late. Every effort is made to keep to time but delays do occur when emergencies are accommodated.

Home Visits In general these are only provided when a surgery visit is medically impossible and not where there are transport problems. They are not normally available during surgery hours and mostly managed at lunch-time and not always by the doctor of choice. Please endeavour to contact the reception staff as early as possible in the morning or even the evening before where possible.

After Hours Medical attention is always available after-hours, 365 days a year. Canberra After-hours Locum Medical Service ( CALMS ) is a co-operative service run by and staffed by Canberra GPs. The answering service is staffed by experienced nursing sisters who can often provide practical advice and arrange after-hours surgery visits or home-visits if necessary. The contact number is 6288 1711 (after 6pm) and is given on our recorded message.

Appointments

WMC is open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 12mid-day Saturdays.
There are generally 3 clinic sessions each week-day: 8am - 12mid-day
2pm - 5.30pm
4.30 - 7.30pm
Most doctors work one or two sessions each day with only one doctor available in the evening. In otherwords the doctor of first choice may not always be available, especially in the evening. The compensation for this is the extended hours appointments. Patients are encouraged to get to know more than one doctor as this is an advantage when the usual doctor is on leave or an urgent appointment is needed in the evening or on Saturdays.
Patients are requested to try and make appointments between 8am and 9am. In general we try to guarantee same-day appointments at this time.
