TELEPHONE ADVICE

Patients are welcome to telephone the surgery for health advice. Many of these enquiries can be dealt with by either of our Practice Nurses (June Jowett or Heather O\'Neill), who are usually available between 8 am and 5 pm Mondays to Fridays. Your doctor will usually be happy to speak to you about health related matters. However, as we try to minimise disruption to consultations you may be asked to wait or we may offer to call you back. You may be asked to make an appointment with the doctor as many issues are complicated and best dealt with face to face.

AFTER HOURS SERVICES When you telephone for after hours attention (that is, when the surgery is closed) you will be directed to call our locum service on 94295677. They will offer to dispatch a doctor to your home and will notify us the next day of any consultation that may take place as a result. Should you require urgent medical attention please telephone 000 for an emergency ambulance. Otherwise you may choose to attend the accident and emergency department of:

(1)Sandringham and District Memorial Hospital, 193 Bluff Rd, Sandringham (99211000), or

(2)Monash Medical Centre, 246 Clayton Rd, Clayton (95946666).

OUT OF SURGERY VISITS The doctors provide visits to patients in their own homes, hostels and nursing homes and are able to admit some patients to Mentone Private Hospital in Parkdale. However, we are usually only able to offer visits within a certain radius of the surgery. Currently the boundaries of this area are the Mordialloc creek, Dingley and Sandringham (thus including the suburbs of Mordialloc, Parkdale, Mentone, Beaumaris, Black Rock, Sandringham and Highett). Unfortunately there may be instances where it is extremely difficult for us to provide an urgent home visit and in these instances we will organise for your medical needs to be met.

EMERGENCY AMBULANCE CALLS

If you ring the surgery and it is decided that an emergency ambulance is required, we will ask you to ring for the ambulance yourself. This can be done by ringing 000. This is at the request of the ambulance service, who are able to confirm your position via your phone call. We will ring the ambulance service a few minutes after you do to make sure that the call got through and that the ambulance is on its way.

OBSTETRIC SERVICES

Drs Sue English and Paul Jenkins work as GP obstetricians, which means that they are qualified to look after pregnant women and deliver their babies. Patients with private health insurance tend to choose Masada Private Hospital in East St Kilda and those without insurance usually choose Sandringham and District Memorial Hospital - these are the two hospitals where these doctors do their deliveries. Obstetric services are not bulk-billed and all patients are billed privately. Our fees for obstetric services can be obtained by speaking to the Drs English and Jenkins or any of our receptionists. Drs Sue Mouritz and Carolyn Nash offer Shared Care with Sandringham Hospital and with some private obstetricians.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All the doctors at Parktone Medical Centre adhere to a strict code of ethics as outlined in the AMA\'s code of ethics. All medical records and copies of results and referral letters are treated with strict confidentiality by all staff.

Appointments

Appointments are available from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Wednesday, 8 am to 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, 8.30 am to 12 noon Saturday and 9.30 am to 11.30 am on Sundays and public holidays.

Consultations are by appointment except on Sundays and public holidays, when patients are seen in order of arrival or urgency.

We book patients every fifteen minutes and most consultations will therefore be standard or \"Level B\" consultations. We try to accommodate unwell patients who do not have appointments and this may mean that at times we may need to keep you waiting. We appreciate that your time is valuable and will try to minimise any inconvenience to you. If your doctor is called away to deliver a baby or to an urgent home visit we will offer you a consultation with another doctor or will rebook your visit for a time to suit you.

We are able to offer long appointments if this is required, such as for a complex problem, and we suggest that you request this at the time of booking your appointment. These longer appointments are usually for half an hour (a \"double appointment\") and this will be billed as a \"Level C\" consultation. Longer appointments are also accommodated. If several members of your family are attending at the one time we will try to allocate an appropriate amount of time.

The doctors at Parktone Medical Centre encourage continuity of care with the same doctor but at times this may not be possible, especially if you become unwell quickly or on a busy day. We will always try to provide urgent appointments even on busy days but this may mean that you may not be able to see the doctor of your choice.

All of our doctors work rostered weekends.

We also offer visits to our patient\'s homes and to nursing homes and hostels. The doctors have admitting rights at the nearby Mentone Private Hospital.
