OBSTETRIC SHARED CARE FOR LOW RISK PREGNANCIES

This practice prides itself on the provision of obstetric shared care to the community.  We have 3 shared care doctors who, in conjunction with the practice midwife, ensure that our clients have a health pregnancy and in conjunction with their hospital of choice, a safe delivery.

All patients are seen regularly, according to the accepted protocols, with regular reviews by the hospital at 12, 20, 36 and 40 weeks.  All other appointments are at the practice.  The first antenatal appointment, which generally takes an hour, is the only appointment that may incur a fee, all remaining obstetric appointments are bulk billed.

IMMUNISATIONS

The practice nurse and doctors are able to provide -

  • childhood immunisations - bulk billed
  • travel immunisations - prescription is required for vaccines, immunisation by nurse bulk billed
  • flu vaccines - free to those 65yrs and over, immunisation by nurse bulk billed

The nurse is available for Obstetric Shared Care, postnatal care and checks, immunisations, asthma care and education, diabetes care and education, wound care, ECG's and skin allergy testing.  Children presenting for immunisations do not need a doctors appointment and are bulk billed.  All other clinical care is performed in association with the treating doctor.

SENIOR HEALTH ASSESSMENTS

All clients age 75 years or over are eligible for a Senior Health Assessment.

The practice nurse conducts home visits for this specific purpose.  It is a preventive program to ensure that patients are able to stay safely in their homes for as long as possible.  It is recommended that the initial visit be conducted at 75 yrs to create a baseline upon which comparisons may be made at a later date.  The nurse can provide resources which may be useful in the future.  A doctors appointment in the practice concludes the health assessment.  All assessments are bulk billed.

AFTER HOURS

The after hours consultations are managed by the nominated locum service. Their number is 83633111 or 8130331. The practice answering machine will also inform you should you ring the Practice. Locum visits will be bulk billed.
