Welcome to
Central Medical Practice - Skin Cancer Service
Central Medical Practice is a traditional general practice which originally opened over 70 years ago. Currently seven doctors work at the surgery. The philosophy of the practice is to offer ethical, comprehensive primary health care at an affordable price.
Due to the overwhelming need for skin cancer screening and treatment, the practice principal, Dr Steven Tomas made the decision to go into full-time skin cancer work in 2004.
Dr Tomas graduated from Sydney University with honours in 1993 and has worked in Dubbo as a general practitioner for over ten years. He has a special interest in skin cancer, dermatology and minor surgery. He has completed his fellowship with the Royal Asutralian College Of General Practitioners and attained a Certificate In Dermatology through Monash University.
Dr Tomas is currently enrolled in the first ever Masters course for skin cancer in Australia, run through Queensland University School Of Medicine. The course will be completed in mid 2007.
As part of the skin cancer service, Dr Tomas liases closely with local, visiting and Sydney based specialists, which includes dermatologists, surgeons and plastice surgeons.
Up-to-date diagnostic and treatment modalities for skin cancer are employed at the practice and include dermoscopy, digital photography, cryotherapy, cautery and curettage, minor surgery (including skin grafting), Aldara cream, Efudix cream and Photo Dynamic therapy.
Patients with complicated problems are readily offered referral to the appropriate specialist(s).
Dr Tomas does not perform cosmetic work though is happy to remove small \"lumps and bumps\" if they are of concern to the client.
