Policies and Appointments

Policy

Emergencies It is our policy that urgent conditions will be treated immediately. This may necessitate stitches, plaster preparation etc and therefore delay booked appointments.

If patients are distressed, you can phone and arrange to come directly to our Emergency Room.

Home Visits This service is available if indicated.

After Hours Wanniassa Medical Centre provides 24 hour, 7 days a week cover.
Should you or your child be acutely ill during the rare times we are not open, please ring 6231 0622 as service is always available.
If seen by a locum, he or she will send a report to your doctor the next day. If he/she thinks it necessary, or you require admission to hospital, the locum will phone your doctor immediately for this advice.

X-Ray after hours You should be aware you can bypass Hospital Casualty after hours for X-Ray - the Dr here can send you directly to private or hospital x-ray facilities.

Appointments

Consultations are by appointment. Although there are four incoming phone lines to the receptionist, 8:30am to 9:30am is very busy so please be brief making your appointments. Try not to phone about other matters during this hour.

We make every endeavour to keep appointments on time. The time you are given is an attendance time and you may have to wait (see below). You may wish to phone back to see if Dr is on time.

In order that others do not have to wait longer, please tell the receptionist: 1) if you think your consultation will take longer than usual eg full check-up and 20 if you want more than one member of the family seen - a double appointment may be made.
