Policies and Appointments

TELEPHONING YOU DOCTOR

We will take phone calls relating to you or your family’s health.  If we are seeing patients when you call we may need to call you back, usually between 1.30pm and 2.00pm.

If you have contacted the practice by e-mail Dr Savio will answer your question as soon as possible.

OUT OF SURGERY VISITS

If you are too ill to come to the Surgery we can visit you at home.  Requests for house calls are best made before 10.00am.  Please remember however, that house calls are time consuming and that Doctors can usually see at least three patients in the Surgery in the time taken to visit one at home.  Visits can also be arranged for patients in nursing homes and hostels.

Out of Surgery visits are usually attended between 1.00pm and 3.00pm or after 5.30pm.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

Prescriptions for medicines taken regularly can be obtained without seeing the Doctor if he has agreed to this.  Requests can be made by phone or calling in at the Surgery.  It is helpful if we have at least 24 hours notice in which to deal with your request.

HEALTH INFORMATION MANGEMENT POLICY

Your doctor needs information about your past and present health in order to provide you with high quality care.  This practice will make sure that you are able to discuss your health with your doctor in private.

This practice follows the guidelines of the "Handbook for the Management of Health Information in Private Medical Practice".  The Handbook was produced by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges with the support of the General Practice Computing Group.  The Handbook incorporates the provisions of Federal and State Privacy Legislation. This means that your personal health information is kept private and secure.

The doctor(s) in this practice respect your right to decide how your personal health information is used or disclosed (for example to other doctors).  In all but exceptional circumstances, personal information that identifies you will be sent to other people only with your consent.  Gaining your consent  is the guiding principle.

It is important that other people involved in your care, such as other doctors or health professionals, are informed of relevant parts of your medical history so they can best care for you.  Your doctor will let you know before this occurs. If you have any concerns about this discuss them with your doctor.

PROCESS FOR THE FOLLOW UP OF RESULTS

It is important that after you have been sent for investigation, you make an appointment to discuss the results of these investigations and their implication for the management of your health with your doctor.

The doctor will only contact you for the results if there is a very significant and urgent abnormality.

Please note that many abnormal results need to be followed up even though they do not represent an immediate threat to your life and it is your responsibility to organise an appointment to discuss the further management.

PATIENT FEEDBACK

From time to time this Practice invites patients to complete a questionnaire on their views of the Practice and how it could be improved.  These surveys are completely confidential and help us improve our services.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of the care you receive from this Practice, we are keen to know about it.  Please feel free to talk to your Doctor or the Receptionist about any problems you have with the service we provide, or put your comments in the ‘suggestion box’ in the waiting room.

We believe that problems are best dealt within the Practice.  Indeed, we want to know if you have concerns about any aspect of our service.  However, if you feel there is a problem you wish to take up outside, you may prefer to contact the NSW Government Centre for handling complaints.  The address is:

Appointments

We run an appointment system, but keep a few times open to fit in with urgent problems.  You can make an appointment by telephoning the Surgery.  Urgent medical problems will be dealt with promptly.  Appointments are normally made at ten minute intervals so you can usually expect to spend ten to fifteen minutes with your Doctor.  This may change if there have been emergencies or if the Surgery is very busy.  If you wish, you can phone the Surgery before your appointment to check whether the Surgery is running on time.

If you feel you may need extra time please tell our Receptionist when you make your appointment.

Some reasons for extra time are:

Insurance examinations.

Superannuation or work examinations.

Psychological problems or counselling.

More than one problem you wish to discuss.

Consultation for more than one family member
