Policy

After Hours Care Dr Delaney and Dr Rudolphy are member of the Cairns Doctors Afterhours which provides care for our patients from the Calvary Hospital between 6pm and 11pm week nights, 1pm to 11 pm Saturday and 8am to 11pm Sunday. Outside of these hours please ring our practice for further advice.

Home Visits The doctors at this practice provide home visits to existing patients when required.

Telephone Contact The doctors can be contacted during opening hours. If they are busy our nurses are on hand to talk to you and liaise with th docotr as necessary. In emergencies you will be put through to the doctor.

Helping us to run on time. Standard consultations are 10-15 minutes.

We find

 Psychological, relationship, workplace problems take up to 30 minutes,

 3 or more problems 20 min,

 a problem plus a skin check, pap smear etc 20 minutes.

If you think you need more time please book a double appointment.

We really do try to avoid delays but emergencies occur most days. We can usually accommodate these in our appointment system but sometimes things take longer. Remember time in the doctor’s room goes faster than most people estimate.

Continuity of Care We aim to look after all your medical problems \"shopping around\" from Dr to Dr may be disadvantageous to your health.

Practice Philosophy General Practice is a speciality with its own specialist training, examinations and colleges. There are broad aims in Australian General Practice.

 Giving quality care. This means giving more time rather than tests and drugs.

 Immunising all children and adults following national guidelines

 Screening for breast, cervical and some other cancers as per national guidelines

 Broaching lifestyle factors such as smoking, exercise, diet, obesity, alcohol and drug use in all patients

 Reducing the unnecessary use of antibiotics and various other medications

 To stay up to date we are involved in teaching medical students and attending medical education events and conferences. Our nurses and reception staff attend various upskilling events.

 Using technology to take better care of you.

 Using recall systems for pap smears, vaccinations, diabetes checks etc. If you do not wish to participate let us know.

Further notes on Fees & Billing Certain consultations are not covered by Medicare, e.g. WorkCover, travel vaccination, some medicals and healthchecks are not rebated by Medicare. Payment is required at time of consultation. You can then make your claim as appropriate.
