Payment

Payment is expected at the time of the consultation in cash or by cheque. Credit and debit cards may not be used.

Prescribing

Many psychiatric disorders respond to non-drug treatments. Patients should not necessarily expect to have medications prescribed. Dr McClure rarely, if ever, advises the use of benzodiazepine sedatives. Stimulant drugs (\"Ritalin,\" dexamphetamine) require the prior approval of the State Department of Health and will only be prescribed after careful review of all the issues involved, and with the referring GP\'s agreement to take over prescribing after a 6-month period. In some cases a condition of prescribing is that the patient agrees to submit to regular, random urine and/or blood testing for drugs of abuse.

After-hours contact

Dr McClure is unavailable for direct after-hours contact and has no hospital affiliations. If a problem arises on a weekend, or outside the hours of 9am to 5 pm on a weekday, we advise that the patient contact his or her GP (or their after-hours service), the nearest public hospital, or the local Mental Health \"Crisis Team.\"

General patient population

Referrals of patients within the age group 18 to 64 with current or probable mood, anxiety or somatoform disorders, ADHD, PTSD or inter-personal problems are welcomed. Dr McClure has no specific expertise in the assessment or treatment of severe psychotic disorders, developmental disability or organic and neuropsychiatric problems.

Medico-legal referrals

Referrals for medico-legal assessments are accepted from private solicitors, Insurance companies, Veterans\' Affairs, Health Services Australia and other sources, both plaintiff and defendant. Dr McClure is an accredited Authorised Report Writer for the NSW Victims\' Compensation Tribunal and has also undergone training in this state\'s Motor Accidents Authority assessment protocols.
