Policies and Appointments

Policy

Prescriptions and referrals

Appointments are required for prescriptions and referrals. These appointments are a good opportunity for a medical review and health check.

Telephone/ messages

Telephone messages during consultations are disruptive for our patients and doctors. The doctor may not be able to respond immediately. Where possible, your doctor will ring back. Our reception staff are trained to handle many enquiries. Where you may seek more detailed advice, you will need to make an appointment.

Emergencies and Afterhours

During office hours, no appointment is necessary for emergencies. Please let our staff know the nature of the emergency so that you may be attended to appropriately. For afterhours, please ring the on call doctor, who can be contacted by ringing the surgery number.

Test Results

Where your doctor has ordered tests, such as X Rays or blood tests, you will be asked to make a follow up appointment. This will ensure that you -get your results in person. - get a thorough explanation from the doctor - be reviewed clinically. Your records are confidential and our reception staff are usually not permitted to give out your results by phone.

Sick Certificates

No sick certificate may be issued without a doctor clinically reviewing the patient. These cannot be back dated.

Consent for immunisation

The Clinic deems consent is given for immunisation where the parent or guardian brings the child in specifically for routine immunisation.

Home Visits

Where home visits are required, please ring early in the day for an appointment. It would also be helpful to know the nature of the problem so that the doctor is equipped for the visit. Elderly patient without transport, may wish to arrange regular home visits for their routine medical care.

Long appointments

If your visit to the doctor is for a complex matter, counselling, medical insurance check, multiple ailments, please request a double appointment.

Ambulance Cover

St John\'s Ambulance Cover is highly recommended. If you received a ride in an ambulance, even at the initiation of the doctor from the surgery, you own the bill!
