Practice Policy

WELCOME  to Bismark Street Family Practice.

Thank you for choosing to visit our AGPAL  fully accredited family friendly practice.

Appointments

Please phone 3209 9405 for appointments.  If you need more time with your doctor, please tell the receptionist when making your appointment.  Urgent problems are always dealt with promptly.  Emergencies will always be given priority and our reception staff will attempt to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay.  If you are experiencing ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS , PLEASE INFORM THE RECEPTIONIST WITHOUT DELAY:-

Chest Pain

Difficulty breathing

Bleeding

Convulsions

Vomiting

Smoking

This practice has a NO SMOKING POLICY.

House Calls

Home visits are available for regular patients of this practice whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery.  Please call early to give us time to organize same.

After Hours

When the surgery is closed, please phone the Home Doctor Service on 137425. For a minimal annual fee you can be bulk billed for this after hours service.

In an emergency contact the  nearest hospital or phone 000.

Our Clinic

It is our practice policy not to issue repeat prescriptions without seeing the patient.  If however a doctor does write a script without seeing the patient, there may be a $5.00 charge for that script, payable upon collection of same.

Our Practice Goal is to offer preventative care to all patients.

Our practice has a reminder system for some routine health checks, eg:  pap smears.  Our practice participates in National recall registers.  If you do not want to receive routine reminders please inform your doctor at your consultation.

If you have had tests done, your doctor will advise when they expect results to arrive.   We may send you a reminder notice relating to your pathology results.  We also value patient feedback.  All patient information and medical records are strictly confidential.  Your medical record is a confidential document and it is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times, and to ensure that this information is only available to authorized members of staff.  We abide by the 10 National Privacy Principles (a copy of which is available at www.privacy.gov.au/health/index.html.  A copy of the Bismark Street Family Practice Privacy Policy is available by requesting same from our reception staff.

Patient Background

Identifying as a patient from a culturally and/or linguistic background enables our practice to tailor appropriate care and encourage understanding and appreciation between people from different nationalities and background.

Telephone Calls   You can contact your doctor by ringing during surgery hours.  Emergency calls will be dealt with promptly by speaking with the doctor, or our registered nurse.  However for general enquiries, you may leave a message with the receptionist and the doctor may return your call, or a message that will be passed on by the receptionist.

Fees  We are a bulk billing practice for patients holding a current Medicare card.

Certain consultations are not bulk billed, eg, Travel Information consultations, employment  and Insurance medicals, please check with the receptionist regarding same.

Patients who do not have a current Medicare card (excluding newborn babies) will have to pay for their consultation on the day of their visit.  Eftpos  / Credit card facilities are available.

Standard Consultation fee $55.00 (no medicare card)

Extended Consultation fee $90.00 (no medicare card)

Complaints   If the situation arises and you feel you need to complain about our practice, please feel free to speak to either the Practice Manager, or the Nurse Manager, who will encourage you to put your complaint in writing.  The information will then be passed on to our practice Principal,  Dr Navin Anand and dealt with promptly.  We take your concerns and suggestions seriously.  If you feel your complaint has not been dealt with satisfactorily, then you are entitled to contact the Office of the Health Ombudsman 133 646 (133 OHO) or write to PO Box 13281, George Stree, Brisbane 4003.

Patient Feedback is most welcome at our practice, and you may contribute by filling in a feedback form and lodging same in the Feedback box located at reception.  You may also speak to one of our friendly staff members.

Improvements   we have made from patient feedback include the following:-

For the Consideration of All Patients   we would rather food was not consumed in our waiting room, and mobile phones should either be turned off or put on silent mode.

It is important to our practice that all patients identify their cultural backgrounds.

Each appointment is 15 minutes. New patients welcomed. Longer appointments will be required for complex or multiple issues and health assessments or care plans.
