After Hours & Emergency

Hello! Seymour Family Clinic wants to tell you about the exciting developments at our Family Clinic, and the range of services we offer. Also, if you are not our regular patient and are thinking about attending us for the first time, we hope you will now enjoy reading about us. First, a few words about who we are and what we do.

~ ~ Our aim is to provide total care ~ ~

This starts with all the expected family doctor (GP) services; plus we have special skills for care in pregnancy and childbirth (Drs Dwyer, Slutzkin & Islam); we do operations & anaesthetics at Seymour Hospital; we offer complete health checks and manage complex and serious illnesses; counselling and much more.

Quality nursing is also our aim – Gay is both Practice Manager and an experienced nurse/midwife; she is supported by Rosie & Karen - for vaccinations, women’s health (you might wish to attend our Well Women\'s Clinic for health checks), wound care, diabetes, pregnancy advice and children’s health problems.

Specialists & other services consult from our Clinic too – so it really becomes ‘one-stop shopping’! Your visit to the paediatricain, physician, surgeon, gynaecologist, eye specialist, podiatrist & counsellor will be right here – it’s sure to make you that bit more relaxed seeing them at YOUR Clinic!

Now, driving us into 2001 is the most ambitious redevelopment that 30 Anzac Avenue has ever seen. Stage 1 has opened (late May 2001) and it looks fantastic - a suite of new rooms, waiting areas and office have replaced a building which is no longer suitable for up-to-date care of our patients & clients. Stage 2 commenced straight away, and expected completion of the whole project is October 2001.

Now – Dr Andrew Slutzkin & Dr William Dwyer are the owners of Seymour Family Clinic, and are the driving force behind all the developments you are reading about. They are busy in the Clinic and at Seymour Hospital, where they deliver babies (Andrew does Caesarean sections too), Bill does many anaesthetics and Andrew does a range of operations. Seymour Hospital is a public Hospital for both uninsured and private patients. We have ‘no-gap’ arrangements for private patients, so no nasty $$ surprises after your stay in hospital!

Working with us is our Registrar in General Practice (or GP Registrar) - Dr Mary Lou Loughnan. Dr Slutzkin & Dr Dwyer are now qualified GP teachers or supervisors. You, and we, demand the best. So these days there is a first-rate career path into general practice, and doctors compete for a training position, where their skills can be polished, and experienced GPs can teach and guide them. The registrar works closely with all of our doctors, and takes time each week with Dr Slutzkin or Dr Dwyer in formal teaching/learning sessions. She is now available for consultations, and we are confident you will enjoy this ‘new face’ at Seymour Family Clinic.

Who has met Dr Hossain Islam or Dr Nedjelka Lukic? Dr Islam has been with us since mid 2000 already, and has cemented his place with us – what with his always happy attitude, willingness to do the work and the great experience he brings from a busy seven years as a rural GP in South Africa. Dr Nedjelka Lukic has been with us a month or two longer, and she is another asset to the Clinic. With a depth of previous experience as a physician, she has taken to general practice with enthusiasm, and shows sound skills with complex medical problems. Nedjelka is also building up her skills in women’s health, and will always be popular with patients who prefer a female GP.

We encourage all patients, old or new, to meet our newer doctors. Maybe your first contact will be when you need an urgent appointment, and your usual doctor is too busy or on leave . . .

Now to our \'senior\' doctors - Dr Jack Bryce continues to enjoy his long career as the ultimate ‘family doctor’, working 3 or 4 days each week. His enthusiasm is undimmed, as is his sharp and critical brain! Dr Bryce keeps us ‘younger’ doctors on our toes, detects a problem, makes a little suggestion. His popularity with teenagers is not surprising, with his kindly air offering reassurance. Dr Bob Russell at last finds time for holidays, now that he is working part-time with us. His role is valuable – working more when someone is on leave, doing Aviation Medicals, and regularly visiting his many patients at Barrabil Nursing Home & Karingal Hostel.

And THAT completes our team of doctors – we reckon you’d have to find a size and shape to suit you!! Share our exciting future with us in 2001!

Good Health!!
